The first week of August we departed Tenants Harbor, Maine, sailing as far downeast as Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island and returning. Aboard for the trip were my sister, her five kids and husband, and my two boys. We made stops at Swan's Island, Seal Cove, Little Cranberry Island, Isle of Haut and Vinalhaven. The weather was cool and wet, with light wind out of the north and east most of the week. In spite of the less than great conditions we still had a fantastic time, hiking, swimming, exploring, picking blueberries, and sailing. Tuesday was the only sunny day, and we took advantage of a nice breeze to sail from Northeast Harbor up Blue Hill Bay to Georgetown and back to Seal Cove.

Evan, Gregory and John went skiing at Sugarbush over President's Day Weekend. We stayed at Nancy Valenta's condo, and her son Kevin, fiancee Melissa, Kevin's friend Eric and Eric's friend Ashley came up Saturday night and Sunday. It rained heavily overnight Sunday, and we had given up on ski school Monday, even contemplating returning home early. However during breakfast the sun came out and the three of us enjoyed perfect spring skiing conditions in the 50s Monday afternoon. The kids skied down several long intermediate slopes, a first for them.

We spent New Years in Charleston, SC. Nancy Valenta and her family and friends joined us. One highlight was the annual Polar Bear Plunge held on Sullivans Island on New Years Day.
